How do you see yourself in 10-15 years? Many of us have heard this question on the interview, probably did not like it and struggled to give an honest answer.
Well, now I think it depends on how we define that “vision” of yourself. I really think that having some sort of north star maybe not necessarily in terms of profession, but more in terms of how my life looks like, what do I care about, what/who is around me etc is quite important. This is what will bring us motivation every morning, adding “why” to the actions and helping to create a plan.
This is also very important for the business. Until recently I barely realized how important overall vision for the business and its communication is. I think when it is there and it is clear it is almost taken for granted, but when it is unclear, that’s when it becomes a much wider issue. What is the bigger motivation for the people other than money? How can they connect their individual “north star visions” with the medium- and longer-term direction of the company?
It is really interesting how similarly things work on different scales: we need to have clear goals that can lead to more specific action plan, and vision is almost like step 0 for it.
What do you think? Do you create a vision for yourself?
P.S. for me I definitely think that the sea, the sun and the rocks suit me well, and should be part of the vision for myself :)
