About decisions

Writer: AnastasiaAnastasia

Hello, hello! It’s been some time… offline activities took most of my time recently: took kids to Turkey for half-term, went on business trip to Kazakhstan, managed to get on six flights in a week. Do you want to hear more?

Back to reality now and the topic today is about decision making.

How do you make decisions? How complicated is this process? Are you more on intuitive or logical side?

For me actually it depends.

There are very important parts of life/work in my value system where I will make decisions very quickly and sometimes rely purely on intuition. For example, I rented houses twice in different countries without even a single viewing, agents thought I was crazy, but it always worked out well.

Or there might be not so important topics like what activity to do as a team event – here I will be 100% democratic and let the team decide, as for me it is more important that they enjoy it, rather than the type of activity.

Decisions are always linked to accountability – who will take care of the consequences, who is in charge of making things happen. So, in my view there should be a group buy-in if the group is in charge of execution, and transparency of the process. And then there is a question of levels of control and autonomy in the delivery process. The more stakeholders are impacted by certain decision the more data-driven it should be, especially if we talk about work-related decisions, and it also should relate to the bigger vision and direction.

What do you think?
